The Universe answers “quiet prayers”

At the beginning of this year, I was battling the flu, colds, and laryngitis off and on forĀ 6 weeks. It was the strangest thing. I don't get sick very often, but when I do, it's much milder. I think that part of it was stress-related. And the other part was the Universe telling me something.

You see, at the end of last year, we shut down for 2 weeks for Winter Break. I remember saying to myself how wonderful it was to have this time off. Then, I remember also saying that I wasn't looking forward to getting back to our typical routine--waking up early, getting our daughter ready for school, making and packing her lunch, getting into office mode, and getting down to work.

It was such a fleeting thought. I only said it to myself, once. But, boy, did the Universe ever turn it into a prayer to be answered. My "quiet prayer" seemed to result in the Universe saying, "Oh, you don't like your routine. Well, let's shake it up a bit."

When the beginning of the year rolled around, not only did I have to deal with my illness, but my daughter had to deal with 3 bouts of ear infections and acid reflux. Needless to say, my routine was wacky! I missed out on a lot. I wasn't fully present with my family. I had to drastically decrease my business task list. I had to pass on some business opportunities. It was a mess!

Fast forward to today, I am LOVING our routine. (Did I say that loudly enough?!) It actually makes me feel more alive. We have all of these business and family tasks down to a science, which leaves room for true spontaneity in other areas. I no longer complain about the mundane because I definitely did not enjoy the chaos.

Reflecting on this made me wonder about my "loud prayers". You know, the things that you hope and pray for morning, noon, and night. You write them down in the form of "I Am" affirmations. You tell people about them. You create your vision board. And you end up with...zippo, zilch, nada in the answered prayer department. Why in the world does that happen?

I feel like the Universe wants us to put it out there, or "set it and forget it" like the old informercials used to say. Then, you can move on to other things. It's a test of faith to see if you'll believe that your prayers will be answered.

So, the takeaway from all this is to be careful thinking seemingly fleeting thoughts. Or, at least make sure that you actually want these thoughts to come to fruition. The Universe might misinterpret your complaint as a "quiet prayer" that you are sending out to be answered.
